Spud Lifting System on Mineral Sands Dredge

Complete hydraulic design, manufacture and installation for operation of spud-lifting system on 60 metre mineral sands dredge.

Torque was selected as part of the project team for the assembly of the mineral sands bucket wheel dredge designed by SPI Pulley Works Inc. USA. Torque designed, manufactured and installed a 100KW power unit to drive the spud-lifting cylinders which in turn drives the dredge. The project included working in conjunction with other selected sub contractors to install internal and external pipe systems during modular assembly on site to operate both the spud lifting system, bucket wheel drive and all ancillary operations. Hydraulic design and manufacture was based on engineering drawings provided prior to dredge manufacture, all manufactured items were supplied in modular kit form to be assembled and commissioned on site.

Project was completed on schedule; Torque was rewarded with numerous variations such as:

  • Installation of flow meters and monitoring systems for the bucket wheel hydraulic drive system.
  • Lubrication system upgrade for submersible electric motor to allow onboard monitoring and pressure control.
